If you’re here, it’s probably because you are looking for information for students with disabilities who you are supporting. For all students, the service you will need to provide is the same, but there are a number of specific issues you may need to bear in mind for students with disabilities.
This section aims to be a central resource for graduates and students with disabilities and specific learning difficulties. There are a number of key issues that are raised frequently which we will endeavour to address here. This is by no means an exhaustive resource, and we will continue to update this area of the site.
AHEAD also runs two projects relevant to students and graduates with disabilities, GET AHEAD & WAM Amongst other things, GET AHEAD provides in-depth career training through its Get Ready 4 work programme and WAM facilitates mentored work placements.
This section aims to provide important information for employers who are looking to recruit, select and employ qualified and skilled people with disabilities.
WAM The central objective of the WAM (Willing Able Mentoring) Programme is to promote mainstream access to the Irish labour market for graduates with disabilities. The mentored work placements offer real life work setting to identify the issues facing both employers and graduates in the recruitment and retention of people with disabilities.
GET AHEAD is a forum for Graduates with Disabilities where they can discuss and share their experiences of the transition from education to employment. Get Ahead also provides a tailored training program entitled 'Get Ready for Work' which covers issues such as employment law, disclosure, career guidance and advice.
