This booklet is a product of the AHEAD WAM Programme and is one in a series of WAM ‘tips and tools’ aimed at supporting organizations who recognize the business advantage of a genuinely inclusive work environment. The primary motivation for the booklet is to provide practical guidelines for managers, supervisors and relevant personnel in order to equip them to respond to the everyday issues that may arise in the recruitment and employment of people with disabilities.’

WAM Employer Toolkit: Tips, Tools and Guidelines

A product of the EQUAL WAM pilot project (2005-2007) developed with the purpose of assisting in-company personnel with the running of WAM placements. However, since the focus of WAM is opening mainstream labour market access for graduates with disabilities, it is also intended that this toolkit be of relevance to the wider business community. Content that may be of use for those wishing to recruit and employ people with disabilities includes recruitment and selection tips, the WAM Mentoring Model, WAM Needs Assessment process and a template for a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP).

AHEAD/WAM (2008) Workplace Attitudes to Graduates with Disabilities: Findings and Recommendations.

An evaluation of the work placement programme under the EQUAL WAM pilot project (2005 – 2007). The report outlines the processes involved in the placement programme, the organizations involved, participating employers, some statistical outcomes and findings and recommendations based on the experience of the WAM team during the period.

AHEAD and TNS mrbi (2008) Employing Graduates with Disabilities: A Survey of 300 Businesses in Ireland

In early 2008 AHEAD commissioned TNS mrbi, an independent market research company, to conduct research on their behalf. The objective of this research was to establish a broad overview of the employment situation of graduates with disabilities through a survey of 300 businesses nationwide who have more than 20 employees.

The WAM Story DVD: The Experience of Participating Mentees, Mentors & Managers

A DVD outlining the experience of the EQUAL WAM pilot project (2005-2007) from the viewpoint of those involved in the placement programme including the employer partners, placed graduates with disabilities, mentors and managers.

Recruitment & Selection DVD: Challenging Assumptions

A training tool for those undertaking the recruitment and selection of graduates with disabilities, aimed at identifying and challenging employer assumptions. The scenarios utilised are based on learning accrued through the running of the WAM placement programme. Elements that may be of use include; job advertisements, interview questions, alternative qualifications, CV gaps and reasonable accommodations.
