Research indicates that the participation of students with disabilities in European exchange programmes is extremely low. This means that students with disabilities do not benefit from the opportunities of living and studying in other European countries. A huge barrier for students with disabilities is the lack of information about what it’s like to study abroad and the types of supports that are available. For students with disabilities having this information is of paramount importance if their exchange experience is to be a success.
To bridge this information deficit five organisations (AHEAD Ireland, handicap+studie The Netherlands, Institut Integriert Studieren Austria, Karolinska Institutet Sweden, VEHHO Flanders, Belgium) have created a web-based service called Study Abroad Without Limits where contact is made between students with disabilities who would like to study abroad and 'local' students with disabilities.
This is an Erasmus funded network of organisations promoting the inclusion of students & graduates with disabilities within the EU, coordinated by AHEAD.
