Building Skills, Confidence and Community Through Inclusive Peer Learning  [Wicklow Hall 1]

Every year the CÉIM peer learning programme reaches over 2000 1st year students in University of Galway and recruits up to 140 student leaders who take on the facilitation role for incoming students in their disciplines. CÉIM provides a unique opportunity to build one's skills in the academic and social areas for both 1st year attendees and student leaders. Every year the percentages of disabled students and leaders rise, and through research, and invaluable input from neurodivergent and disabled leaders, CÉIM has continued to adapt. This workshop will look at our adaptation of the UDL framework for mainstream peer learning, as well as inclusive practices in recruitment, training, coaching, skills development, and the implementation of group agreements and Work With Me documents. From this, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their current practices and brainstorm together on what they can do to support students' development in higher education.
