The AT Continuum: The AT gaps and the AT maps that we need to consider so AT awareness is addressed
Is AT for everyone? If it is, then when do we start this AT conversation with everyone?
Exploring the presence of AT, and the lack of presence of AT, in Education Documents from Primary, Secondary, Further and Higher Education, there are pockets of good practice – also, a lot of opportunities to place AT in Education.
In 10 years of working for students in HE, I have heard (far too often) that the phrase, ‘Assistive Technology’ is unknown to most students with disabilities. I find myself asking questions like how is AT awareness still an issue and how has the presence of AT not become embedded in all levels of education for the benefit of all students as well as our students with disabilities.
Let us explore some of these AT gaps and map out opportunities for these to be bridged so we can create an AT continuum.
