Student Voices - the next step?

16th November 2012, 1- 3:30pm

Are you a student/graduate with a disability?

Are you interested in discussing:

  • your experience of education
  • your expectations for work
  • how AHEAD can include you

If so, AHEAD wants to hear from you at our event in Dublin city centre (Jurys Hotel, Custom House Quay) on the 16th November.

You have to register here to attend. Places are limited (we will close registration when we hit capacity or on Wednesday evening - whichever comes first!), but it's free, and we should be able to cover your travel expenses.

FAQ

What do we mean by student/ graduate?

If you are currently studying at any third level (further or higher) educational instution (level 6 - 10 see nfq.ie for more information!) or have graduated from a third level course in the past 3 years, then you are welcome to attend.

Do we want students with specific learning difficulties/ mental health or is it just people with physical difficulties?

All students with disabilities (including specific learning difficulties/ mental health/ visual impairments/ deaf/ blind/ hard of hearing/ mobility impairments/ long term health conditions) are welcome! If you need any assistance or supports to attend please let us know so we can arrange them.

Why is AHEAD doing this?

In November 2010 we did a piece of work, bringing students with disabilities from around the country together to share experiences and inform our policy formation. This is the report of that piece of work (we can email it to you if you're interested). Since then we've been doing bits of work in this area (including a survey with USI) and now we'd like to progress it.

What will happen on the day?

Well, firstly you have to register (here!) to attend! When you've done that, we'll be in touch with you individually to pass on all the details. But I can tell you, you'll be fed, and we won't waste your time!

If you still have questions or require more information, please give Niamh a call on 01 7164397 or email on niamh.hayes AT ahead.ie

And here's a video from our event in November 2010!
