ALTITUDE is Ireland's National Charter for Universal Design in Tertiary Education.

AHEAD, funded by the HEA and with support from the ALTITUDE Activation Group, are in the process of developing the ALTITUDE Community - A national community of practice on the embedding of universal design in Irish tertiary education.

This community will both support individuals who are working on the ground to advance a universal design approach in Education and Training Boards (ETBs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Ireland.

This includes both:

  • Practitioners on the ground working in roles concerning teaching and learning, learner support/professional services, the design and maintenance of the digital or physical environments, who are interested in sharing and learning more about embedding UD in their practice.
  • Those working on developing/evolving goverance structures, institutional policy and strategy to further embed universal design via the ALTITUDE Charter and beyond.

The community will support professionals in ETBs/HEIs that have already adopted ALTITUDE, and those who are exploring it.

So.... if this sounds like its for you, we need your help in shaping the community, and figuring out how it can best support you and your colleagues, and this Town Hall event offers an opportunity to share your views.

In it, you'll:

  • Get a reminder of what ALTITUDE is, how it was developed, where its at now and where its headed
  • Discuss a series of structured questions about how this community should work with colleagues from across Ireland in breakout rooms

The consensus fed back from these discussions will help us to ensure the structure of the community, the topics we cover, and the values behind the engagement of its members are informed by the community itself, and are carefully designed to support their work.

Come and be part of the growing movement of professionals working to design a tertiary education system for all through a universal design approach.
