Lightning Sessions - Storytelling [Wicklow Hall 2]

Each presentation during the Lightning Session will be six to eight minutes, using a maximum of six slides. These rapid fire presentations will serve as a great introduction to projects, resources and approaches to inclusive education and learner support across the sector.  

 

 

Lightning 2.1: Learner Spotlight

Learner Spotlight

The presentation looks at the learning journey of a young man who has Down syndrome as he moves from Special school through to Adult Day Services.

Life Long Learning Opportunities.

It looks at the many touch points available for our learner in Community Education, Literacy and Further Education and Training, Specific Training Programs and Community Training Programs and even college.

It looks at the learning options available at the critical times he has needed educational support and it questions who is best placed to support him to engage with services.

Legislation Relevant to Education

The presentation will explore the New Directions model in Adult Day Services and the Partnership approach necessary between Adult Education Providers and Service Providers to create bespoke educational opportunities and embrace skills and interests consistent with a Human Rights Approach.

Psychological Adjustment and Educational Support: Experiences of Students with Dyslexia

Adults with dyslexia report difficulties with reading speed, written expression/structure, and time-management. This causes barriers to adequate learning opportunities. HEIs do provide an array of supports for students with dyslexia, however research has suggested that availability is variable. Here we used a mixed-methods approach to examine this in Ireland.
